About Guo Pu 郭璞

Guo Pu (276-324 CE) was a prominent Eastern Jin Dynasty scholar, known for his literary achievements, philological expertise, and mastery of esoteric arts. His annotations of classical texts, particularly the Erya and Fangyan, are invaluable for studying ancient Chinese language and regional dialects. He is credited with founding the "Wandering Immortal Poetry" genre and is traditionally attributed as the author of the Book of Burial, a significant work on geomancy. His life was marked by both intellectual pursuits and involvement in the political turmoil of his era, culminating in his execution at the age of 49.
